Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases provides integrated semantic search capabilities by combining Amazon Kendra with foundation models. This approach simplifies the RAG implementation by handling the orchestration between search and generation.
Step 1: Create a Knowledge Base in Amazon Bedrock
1. Navigate to Amazon Bedrock in the AWS Console
2. Select "Knowledge Bases" from the left navigation menu
3. Click "Create" and then “Knowledge Base with Kendra GenAI Index”
4. Enter a name (e.g., "company-internal-knowledge")
5. Optionally add a description
6. Select the option to create and use a new service role
7. Select the option to create a new Kendra GenAI Index
8. Optionally add tags and then click on “Create Knowledge Base”
Step 2: Add Data Sources to Kendra
1. In the "Data source" section, click "Add data source"
2. Select "Amazon S3" as the source type
3. Enter a name for your data source(e.g., "company-internal-knowledge-data-source")
4. Specify the default language of source documents
5. Choose "Create a new service role" for automatic IAM configuration
6. Configure S3 settings:

7. Choose how often you want your data to be updated
8. Finish creating the data source
9. After creation is complete, click “Sync now”
Step 3: Interact with your knowledge base
1. Open the "Chat with your document" tab
2. Under "Configurations" and "Model" select the LLM of your choice and interact with the model and your internal knowledge base through prompts
